Hannah Biggs creates paintings for gallery and to commission. Interested in exploring texture, the work is built up over many layers which Hannah then distresses by scratching through to reveal the layers beneath.
Hannah's paintings are created using a mixed media of plasters, acrylics and emulsions and sometimes copper wire. She also integrates other metals into her work which she then breaks down creating natural rust and erosion. She often refers to her work as industrial landscapes.
Hannah Biggs first started her education in art at Plymouth College of Art and Design where she did her diploma specialising in Sculpture. She then did a degree in Applied arts at The University of Derby studying 3 dimensional design in mixed media.
"I grew up in devon where I was lucky enough to live by the sea. It was there that I witnessed natures power to reclaim amongst crumbling cliff tops, rusting fishing boats and verdigris copper roof tops. This began my interest in erosion. I often take inspiration from decaying walls and ancient plasters and incorporate these aesthetics into my work. I believe if you leave things to the elements they often become more beautiful"
